What to Look for When Buying a Red Dot Sight
You can’t just buy any red and green dot sight that you see.
So how do you know that the red/green dot sight you are getting is the right one for you?
Here’s what I like to look for in my red dot sights.
#1 Durability
There’s a lot that your red dot sight will go through while shooting.
If you are hunting outdoors, you can expect times of sudden heat, cold, fog, and rain. There are also the added risks of bumping into trees or dropping your firearm.
Don’t think you’re safe if you’re just shooting in an indoor range, either.
In my experience, the force and recoil as you shoot multiple rounds can still shake red dot sights and cause them to lose zero.
If your red dot sight loses zero while you shoot, you can have inaccurate shots and even terrible (or fatal!) accidents.
You should look for a durable, waterproof, and fog-proof sight with good build quality that can withstand all these conditions.
I recommend looking for red dot sights made of aluminum.
Very durable sights might be hard to come by in the price range of under $100 for red dots, but it is possible.
#2 Versatility
For the best value for your money, it’s best to find a red dot sight that you can use on various firearms (e.g., AR-15 compatible red dots).
This way, you need not keep buying new sights if you have multiple firearms.
I’d say this is especially important if you are a beginner who might mix up models and rail mounts.
#3 Reticle
The reticle is the part of the red dot sight that lets you know where your bullet will land and is one of the most important things to look for.
Be sure to find a reticle that is clear and bright.
It’s better if it has multiple brightness adjustments for various lighting conditions.
#4 Accuracy
Be sure that the sights you get are accurate and will not interfere with any backup iron sights you intend to get.
Even if you have a red dot sight or any similar optic, BUIS are still recommended in the case of optic failure.
Thus, on top of being sure that the sights you get are accurate, you need to be sure that this accuracy won’t be affected by your BUIS.
#5 Adjustment
Sometimes I need to adjust my sight for elevation (vertically) or windage (horizontally) to line up a perfect shot.
Look for adjustment knobs or buttons that are easy to move on the field but won’t be easily dislodged by sudden movements.
This is important to be sure that you can easily make adjustments on your red/green dot sight on the spot but don’t have to deal with unintended adjustments that may throw off your aim.
Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight Review
The Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red Dot/Green Dot is a great red dot sight for people of all backgrounds.
I’ll break down what makes it so good.
Overall Rating: 4.4 out of 5 Stars
Durability – 4/5
The Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight is currently one of the toughest rifle scopes.
It is made of sturdy, industrial-grade aluminum to endure harsh conditions and situations without letting you down.
Additionally, the Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight is fog proof and waterproof and comes with flip-up caps to protect its crystal clear lenses on both ends.
Versatility – 5/5
This red and green dot sight is extremely versatile and can be mounted on any rifle, including the M-16 and AR-15.
The Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot fits not only any hunting or tactical rifle but can even fit a Gamo pellet gun if used with an air gun rail to Picatinny rail adaptor.
This is all thanks to the hand tightening rail mount built into the cantilever rail mount, thus eliminating the need for any special tools to mount the V1 securely onto your firearm.
Reticle – 4/5
The Tacticon Armament Predator V1 comes with either a red or green reticle in 4 reticle patterns.
The 3 MOA dot allows for a nice, clean shot without harsh lines or light distortions.
Both of these color choices are very crisp and bright.
However, I’ve found it can be quite difficult to see the red dot on lower settings during the daytime.
In this case, I recommend you set it to the highest setting to see the red dot clearly.
I prefer the green dot option.
This green dot setting stays clear even in low-light environments, which I can’t really say of the other option.
Accuracy – 4/5
This red/green dot sight was designed to perfectly co-witness with iron sights.
This makes the Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot an ideal choice for hunting, target shooting, and tactical use.
While it is extremely accurate at close to mid-range targets, I’ve found that its accuracy decreases as the distance from the target increases.
Adjustments – 5/5
Elevation and windage settings are adjustable on the Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot sight.
Adjustments on this red dot scope can be made with clear clicks that help guarantee better accuracy.
This should be fairly doable even if you’re new to how red dots work.

Testimonials
Join me as I take a closer look at what real-life buyers have said about the Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight.
This combat veteran buyer was extremely pleased with both the service and quality of the Tacticon Armament Predator v1 red/green dot sight:
“I loved the ease of installing the red dot on my Highpoint carbine 9mm. I was happy that I didn’t have to buy a riser or nothing extra to install it. The red dot adjustments are so simple.. I have fired over 1000 rounds and sights having moved. I will be purchasing another for my 40.
It’s such a great item that my brother who’s a gun enthusiast and has a scope already is strongly thinking about purchasing the predator. The customer service was awesome they made sure I signed up for the warranty before I even received it. Delivery was amazing even with it being holiday time. Veteran to Veteran….. wouldn’t have expected nothing but the best from a Veteran owned company.” – Anonymous
On the other hand, this poor buyer seems to not have had such a good experience:
“It held zero, and I did’nt have any issues with the dot being hazy or out of focus.
However, my confidence ended with this optic by my second and third trips to the range. I had about 150 rounds through the rifle before it became unusable. The brightness knob started out firm, and each selection gave a positive “click” into place. After about 100 rounds, the knob lost its firm feel and rotated easily with almost no discernible “click” between each setting. Two mags later, the dot disappeared. The knob had backed itself out to where it wobbled like a loose tooth, and I couldn’t find a way to tighten it. I sent it back for a refund.” – Anonymous
From what I’m seeing, it tends to be a hit or miss.
There have been complaints of the product breaking after a while, of being low quality or feeling “cheap.”
However, these complaints tend to be few and far between.
On the other hand, the overwhelming majority (including veterans with firsthand experiences) sing praises to the Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight for its durability, ease of use, and accuracy.
Final Verdict: Is The Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot for You?
If you are looking for a reliable red and green dot sight that can withstand intense heat, cold, and water…
Then I recommend the Tacticon Armament Predator V1 Red/Green Dot Sight— especially if you’re on a budget!
